Overview

This program aims to achieve a more holistic view of community-based interventions at the level of institutions and communities, expanding and deepening the theory and concepts of social service at the global level, regional and national levels, as well as in developing analytical and practical expertise in coping with social services and initiatives and enhancing social workers skills. It also aims to develop research capabilities to contribute to the development of social service knowledge, and to build a professional cadre in Palestine capable of taking innovative, creative, and effective steps to enable the Palestinian to confront the injustice, inequality and persecution that is being experienced by different segments.

Hence, this important program comes to fill a major educational gap and it contributes to providing community institutions with specialized cadres to work and help individuals, groups and societies.

Goals
 

The program seeks to educate social workers who are capable of serving in the social care sector to mitigate social issues faced by individuals and communities, and to meet the needs of social service institutions. The program helps to meet the following goals:

  • Provide the student with the requisite theoretical and applied frameworks that qualify him / her as a social worker to meet the needs of various social segments in need of help: children, the elderly, adolescents, addicts, etc ..
  • Qualify the student to deal with social problems at various levels including individual and families, communities, and community organization.
  • Enhance the student's capabilities in scientific research (descriptive, analytical and evaluative).
  • Enabling the students to engage and integrate within social institutions, and be capable of developing and managing these institutions by modern scientific, administrative techniques.
  • Give the student the necessary professional frameworks to allow him to recognize, evaluate, and propose alternatives to social policies.
  • Qualify graduates to contribute to the preparation of field studies on methods of dealing with urgent social issues in the Palestinian community, to assist in the development of suitable plans to address them.
  • Support different social institutions with scientific competencies that help to develop the social care profession's practice in its various fields.

Prospective Employment
 

This program contributes to the enhancement of graduates’ opportunities by developing their professional and social personalities, qualifying them to manage institutions that provide social service for the following sectors: family and childhood, schools, juveniles, people with disabilities, youth, addicts, prisoners, and with elderly, in addition to teaching in universities, colleges and institutes.
