Al-Quds Open University holds a workshop on the use of Guar for feeding and fattening sheep

  On Tuesday, November 12, 2019, the Faculty of Agriculture at Al-Quds Open University held a workshop entitled: "The use of Guar in feeding and fattening sheep", in partnership with An-Najah University and under the patronage and presence of the Minister of Agriculture Mr. Riad Al-Attari, and the President of the University Prof. Younes Amr.

The workshop was held at Al-Quds Open University headquarters in Al-Balou' neighborhood in Ramallah, in partnership with the National Center for Agricultural Research and An-Najah University, with financial support from FAO, and with the participation of researchers and agricultural extension workers.

Prof. Ma’en  Sheqwara, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture,  said that the workshop aimed at presenting and discussing the use of Guar fodder produced in Jericho Research Center in feeding and fattening sheep in Umm al-Tout village in Jenin governorate, in cooperation with An-Najah National University under the supervision of Prof.  Jamal Abu Omar, Animal Nutrition Expert and specialized Researchers at the National Center for Agricultural Research: Dr. Wael Alqaisi and Eng. Fathi Nairat from Beit Qad station, with financial support from FAO.

At the end of the workshop Participants and researchers recommended that the cultivation and production of Guar should be expanded in the Jordan Valley between May and September as cultivation this crop during this period proved its success. Participants also stressed the importance of carrying out more applied research in the feed production and ruminant feeding (sheep and cattle) in order to achieve the best  productivity .
