Objectives

The Center seeks to achieve the following objectives:

  • Raise students’ awareness of the value of Palestinian folklore and its role in reinforcing national identity, through the organization of heritage-focused seminars and conferences.
  • Revive social, national, and religious occasions rooted in Palestinian traditions and practices, thereby reconnecting the community with its enduring cultural legacy.
  • Establish cultural bridges with researchers, artists, and folk poets within the West Bank, the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948, and the Palestinian diaspora, with the aim of nurturing talents, ideas, and collective memory, and integrating folklore into contemporary life.
  • Encourage students to engage with traditional oral culture, including folk singing, proverbs, stories, riddles, and theatrical performances that embody an understanding, love, and re-enactment of their heritage.
  • Support the revival of traditional artefacts and crafts by organizing folklore exhibitions across university branches that highlight the richness of Palestinian material culture.
  • Publish a print and digital magazine dedicated to Palestinian heritage, showcasing historical landmarks and encouraging contributions from Palestinians at home and abroad to preserve and revitalize folk traditions.
  • Preserve both tangible and intangible aspects of Palestinian heritage by establishing a Folklore Museum at the University, and collecting physical and oral artefacts related to traditional life—including food, drink, clothing, stories, songs, proverbs, and poems whether preserved in recordings, images, films, or written in magazines, newspapers, academic research, or online sources.
  • Highlight the cultural legacy of depopulated villages and towns, placing particular focus on the traditional heritage that characterized these communities.
