QOU Takes Part in the UNESCO Regional Consultations on Open Educational Resources

 "Al-Quds Open University took part in the regional consultation meeting on Open Educational Resources (OER), organized online by UNESCO in Egypt under the theme: “Towards a National Policy on Open Educational Resources: Insights from Regional Experiences

Dr. Mahmoud Hawamdeh, a researcher in educational technology and digital learning represented QOU at the meeting, which was attended by experts from several Arab countries, including Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, and Tunisia. The meeting provided a platform to exchange national experiences and highlight major Arab initiatives in the field of OER. It also shed light on the Egyptian experience through remarkable initiatives by the Library of Alexandria, Alexandria University, Helwan University, and the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Participants also discussed significant global milestones such as UNESCO’s 2019 Recommendation on Open Educational Resources and the Dubai Declaration, linking these frameworks with future regional plans. The meeting concluded with a set of practical recommendations expected to shape Egypt’s national policy on OER.

Dr. Hawamdeh emphasized that this participation came in line with the directives of QOU President Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Al-Shaer, reflecting the University’s vision to advance digital transformation, promote a culture of open educational resources, and strengthen regional partnerships for sharing best practices and establishing knowledge as a public good for all.
