In a move reflecting the growing international presence of Al-Quds Open University, Dr. Mahmoud Hawamdeh, Director of the University’s Yatta Branch, has joined a global academic team at the Artificial Intelligence in Education Research Centre (AIEOU), part of the Department of Education at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom. The Centre, led by Dr. Sarah Ratner, brings together an elite group of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from around the world.

The AIEOU Centre is dedicated to advancing an ethical and human-centered approach to the integration of artificial intelligence in education. Its work focuses on four main pillars: design, governance, implementation, and impact. The Centre seeks to establish a collaborative research agenda that contributes to shaping best practices in teaching and learning through AI, in partnership with academic institutions, educators, students, government agencies, and private sector initiatives.

Dr. Hawamdeh’s research interests focus on exploring issues of digital citizenship and the ethical application of AI within educational environments. He recently published a book in English entitled Digital Citizenship and the Future of Artificial Intelligence, one of the first works to address this topic from a global and multicultural perspective. His inclusion in this international research alliance represents a significant step towards strengthening Palestine’s engagement in global efforts to develop knowledge-driven, responsible, and safe AI policies for education.
