Al-Quds Open University wins the Arab Council for Social Responsibility Award

Al-Quds Open University won the Arab Council for Social Responsibility award for charitable deeds. The award was announced by the His Excellency Ahmed Abou al-Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League.

QOU received two awards, the first for the Mobile Educational Center that provides education in marginalized areas in the southern West Bank and the Palestinian Valley, and the second was awarded to Prof. Youssef Diab Awwad, Vice President of the University for Social Responsibility, in his capacity as an author, researcher, expert and influential in achieving social responsibility in its Arab development dimension.

Prof. Younes Amr, congratulated QOU for this award which came within a great competition with a group of active institutions in the field of social responsibility in the Arab world, in appreciation of its humanitarian role, which was represented in several scientific activities, including academic courses, scientific conferences, smart education, and community initiatives represented by the mobile educational center in Yatta, Samou’ and Tubas to serve marginalized groups in areas oppressed by the occupation, and to provide psychological counseling in times of disaster.

For his part, The Project Manager of the winning project, Dr. Islam Amro, President’s Assistant of the University for Technology and Production Affairs, said that these projects come in the context of strengthening the role of QOU in serving areas that are unfortunate in development and highly threatened by the Israeli occupation, as the targeted areas in the northern West Bank that  constitute more than 11 centers of population. Dr. Amro  said that the two mobile centers are huge trucks equipped  with computers and advanced projectors in addition to internet connection systems and air conditioning systems. It is worth mentioning that these trucks have been adapted under the Corona pandemic to take into account safety conditions. These projects are implemented in cooperation between Al-Quds Open University, municipalities and local councils in marginalized areas and in coordination with the Ministry of Education and funded by several donors, in addition to Al-Quds Open University.
