 Al-Quds Open University, in partnership with the Al-Mutamayzoun Group of France, organized a webinar entitled: "The Power of Media Language in Reporting the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: Discourses, Frames and Contents", on Sunday, May 30, 2021.

The webinar  was attended by Prof. Samir Al-Najdi, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Islam Amr, Assistant President of the University for Technology and Production Affairs, Dr. Jaber Abu Shaweesh, Director of Khan Younis Branch, Dr. Cara Roy from Harvard University in USA, Dr. Aladdin Al-Siqali from Sultan Idris University in Malaysia, Dr. Wissam Amer, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Languages at the University of Gaza, and Engineer Mahmoud Abu Shaweesh, in the presence of a group of researchers specialized in Media and English from Palestine and abroad.

The webinar highlighted the power of media in covering the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Dr. Abu Shawish, the Moderator of the webinar highlighted the tragic events that people in Palestine went through, starting with the Nakba in 1948,  the massacres of Deir Yassin, the Zionist attacks and wars on Gaza, and the ethnic cleansing in West Bank, Jerusalem and in the Palestinian territories occupied in 1948 in the cities of Lod, Acre, Negev and Haifa.

Dr. Abu Shawish also focused on the double standards of some western governments regarding the Palestinian issue, and that these governments support Israel politically and economically and provide it with lethal weapons that kill children, women and the elderly and destroy homes, towers, streets and everything.

The Vice President for Academic Affairs, Prof. Samir Al-Najdi, said that this webinar is an important one amid this sensitive stage experienced by the Palestinian people in their struggle to gain their freedom and independence. He also said  that the recent war on the Gaza Strip started by the violations of the occupation in “Sheikh Jarrah” and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and ended with international intervention that urgently need to emphasize the Palestinian right in freedom and independence to the world. He stressed that  “Al-Quds Open University" is concerned with conveying the suffering and rights of the Palestinian people to the world through seminars, activities and international visits that it organizes from outside Palestine and carries them outside Palestine, to convey the suffering of the Palestinian people to the world and their aspirations for freedom and independence.

On his part, Dr. Eng. Islam Amro, Assistant President of the University for Technology and Production Affairs, talked about the importance of the webinar, saying: The scientific webinar opened a discussion about the nature of the media coverage of the recent war on the Gaza Strip from the Palestinian side, and from the side of the international media of this issue.

Dr. Roy spoke about the scientific measures that the Palestinian journalist, as well as the Palestinian intellectual and academics, should take at the present time, as the doors are now wide open  for the Western media to absorb the Palestinian narrative, as we we saw in an image presented by the Washington Post newspaper of  the martyred children in the recent war.

Dr. Assaiqeli talked about the role of discourse in the liberation of Palestine from a religious point of view (Qur’an and biblical) point of view and

For his part, Dr. Wesam Amer emphasized the weak role of the Palestinian media in deconstructing the Israeli narrative, in his speech entitled “The Absence of Palestinian Influence in international Media,”. Dr. Amer presented quotes from international newspapers dealing with news of the recent war on Gaza, stressing the importance of the role of the journalist and the media as well as the intellectual and the Palestinian student in conveying the correct narrative.

The webinar came out with a set of practical recommendations that will be disseminated to Western public opinion through social networking sites.
