QOU inaugurates a new computer lab to hold training courses in open source operating systems (RED HAT Enterprise LINUX)

The Center for Continuing Education and Community Service, in cooperation with the ICT Center of Al Quds Open University, inaugurated a new computer lab to conduct training courses in RED HAT Enterprise LINUX. Eng. Nasim Hamaida, Head of Systems Engineering at ICT Center and a certified trainer by Redhat International, said that the lab is equipped with advanced technological equipment to hold advanced training courses and international IT exams.

Hamaida pointed out that the target groups of this kind of training are technicians working in public and private institutions, university students and other operating system managers. This course qualifies trainees to apply for international certificates as Red Hat Certified system Administrator (RHCSA) And Linux System Engineer certified by (RHCE), one of the strongest certifications in the field of ICT.

Eng. Mohammed Fahl, the Acting Director of the Center for Continuing Education and Community Service, mentioned that QOU received accreditation from Red Hat Linux International in 2010 and that the lab has been refurbished and is the only accredited testing laboratory in this field in Palestine.Eng. Fahl added that the laboratories developed by "QOU simulates the latest technology and meets all requirements of the international examination centers of such systems.

Dr. Eng. Islam Amr, Assistant President for Technology and Production, and Director of the ICT Center, said that training courses and specialized international certificates have become necessary in the technology and communications sector to enhance the expertise of technicians working in this field. Dr. Amr  explained that, according to the International Data Center (IDC), the productivity of the staff who received the training courses and certificates is more  by 38% than their counterparts who have not received the training, in addition to 10% chance of higher performance at work. Dr.  Amr also  commented that QOU has delegated engineers to Britain and the United Arab Emirates to acquire the required technical expertise in this field, and to obtain the international licenses necessary to operate a training and international exams center that is accredited by  "Redhat". It is noteworthy that QOU is the only institution in Palestine that holds accredited international examinations in this field.
