Al-Quds Open University participated in the third phase of the conference of young leaders preparations in University Union work project which is implemented by the Palestinian Dream Institution in partnership with Al-Quds Open University and entitled: "Unionism in Universities: Prospects and Aspirations" .

The conference targeted students from Palestinian Universities, mostly from "Al Quds Open University".

Prof.  Mohammed Shaheen, Assistant President of Al-Quds Open University for Student Affairs, presented a paper on student participation in public affairs as a form of democracy. The paper stressed the right of students to invest their potentials and abilities in the context of integration with their community within the concept of good and responsible citizenship.

The paper emphasized the right of the  students in exercising their influence on the public policy and decision making in all areas: economic, educational and social, to ensure the proper application of the principles of democracy and participation in a framework of diversity and acceptance of the other and the competition of ideas in order to protect the society away from all aspects of extremism and exclusion.

The paper called for social awareness of young people's issues to rebuild young people based on sound knowledge and values. The universities should restore their true role in enhancing the national character of youth by guiding civil society institutions towards youth issues and restoring the values ??of volunteering away from the exploitation of youth and their abilities and conditions.
