On Tuesday 23/10/2018, QOU and the Investigative Journalists Network organized a study day that recommended accrediting special courses in investigative journalism in the faculties of media in the Palestinian universities.
The study day was held at the faculty of Media in Muscat building in Ramallah under the auspices of QOU President Prof. Younis Amr. The participants assured their support to the right to information and the need to allocate special budget for investigative journalism. The participants also called for launching an MA program in media, as there is no available graduates programs in this specific field.
The Vice President for Administrative Affairs Dr. Marwan Darwish opened the first session by welcoming the participants; he also briefed the attendees about the role of QOU in holding conferences, seminars and workshops in cooperation with several civil society organizations out of its belief in the importance of scientific research. He added that the study day represents the policy of the University and its efforts in building cooperation with the different organizations especially media organizations. He indicated that the University launched two new major in the faculty of Media; New Media major and Public Relations and Advertising major in order to provide the labor market with qualified employees.
The coordinator of the Investigative Journalists Network Mr. Muntaser Hamdan stated that QOU added investigative journalism to the courses it provides, which is a big improvement in the University’s work and role in serving the community. He added that investigative journalism became one of most important skills in media and we in Palestine need to provide facts in a professional way, in order to achieve this, we need to improve the abilities of the journalists.
The study day included three scientific sessions; the first one was managed by the journalist Ansat Tmaizeh and entitled “investigative reporting... Palestinian experiments”, the second session that was entitled “investigative reporting… obstacles and challenges” and was headed by Dr. Shadi Abu Ayash Dean of the Faculty of Media in QOU, and the third session was entitled “the organizational responsibility in supporting investigative specializations” and was headed by journalist Alaa Karajah.
