Al-Quds Open University Wins Funding for a Research Project

The Faculty of Agriculture at Al-Quds Open University won funding for a research project from the Leading House for the Middle East and North Africa Foundation, which targets researchers in the Middle East and North Africa region MENA through the "Research Partnership Grant 2022".

Dr. Aziz Salameh, a researcher at the Agricultural Research Center, said that the project will include collecting hundreds of samples of plants, water and soil in the Jenin governorate, and conducting laboratory tests on them in Palestine and Switzerland.

It’s worth mentioning that 54 project proposals were submitted to the competition by researchers from research centers and universities in the Middle East and North Africa, in partnership with 21 Swiss institutes, research centers and universities.

The project prepared by Dr. Salama, in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture and the University of Zurich, entitled: "Heavy metals in Palestinian Agriculture – a pilot study in the Jenin Governorate", aims to identify the main potential sources of heavy metals in the various agricultural systems in Palestine, and to provide the first assessment of the risks related to heavy metals in agriculture on the environment and food products in Palestinian agriculture.

.The project also aims to strengthen scientific relations between researchers in both Palestine and Switzerland
