History and Location of the Educational Region:
Bethlehem Educational Region and its Study Center were established when Al-Quds Open University started its educational services in Palestine in 1991 at a critical stage, and when the Israeli occupation authorities were taking severe measures against Palestinian educational institutions in the occupied territories. The establishment of Bethlehem Study Center enables Palestinians in Bethlehem District to pursue higher education. When the first study center was opened, it was near the Caritas Hospital, and consisted of two small flats, which contained four offices, three classrooms and a computer lab. The number of the students increased rapidly, and so another building was rented which consisted of four classrooms and three offices. To cope with the growing number of students, QOU rented the present building, situated in an area, which is easy to reach by the majority of the students. One of the most important developments in the history of Bethlehem Educational Region is the latest decision of the Administration of QOU to build a university owned campus on a piece of land in Beit Jala. This project will be the greatest achievement generations to come will be proud of.

Bethlehem Educational Region and Beit Sahour Study Center serve the population of Bethlehem Governorate(totalling 160000 inhabitants) distributed among main towns such as Bethlehem, Beit Jala, Beit Sahour and Al-Khader, in addition to the villages of Beit Fajjar and Tqu’ in the south; Za’tra, Ubaydiyyah, Dar Salah, Shawawrah and Ta’amrah in the east, Wadi Fukin, Nahhalin and Hosan in the west, and the refugee camps: Dehesha, Aida and Azza.
