Department of Libraries

  1. Department of Libraries: The Academic Affairs Department at QOU is heading to choose the term “Department of Libraries” as an official name for this vital university facility, and hence this university unit becomes one of the important university departments. The title of the person who runs this department is “The General Directorate of the University Libraries”, and now he is Professor Yasser Al-Mallah. Other employees in this department are, Ms. Raja’ Abu Alia, Trustee of the Central Library, Mr. Ahmed Thabet, Coordinator of the Libraries in Gaza Strip, and a number of trustees who are working in the libraries of QOU presently and who are going to be employed in the future.
  2. System of the Libraries: The system of the libraries at QOU depends upon a sequence, which starts from the Central Library in Ramallah at the top of the pyramid to different libraries in the educational regions and centers at the bottom. Al-Quds Open University aspires to make the Central library able to meet the needs of its visitors, mainly the learners at Ramallah and Al-Bira Educational Region, other learners from all the educational regions and centers in Palestine, and academic supervisors and researchers. Compared with the Central Library, minor, subsidiary libraries in the educational regions and centers are with modest and limited capabilities because they are designed to meet the needs of the learners and the academic supervisors in the specializations and programs in which QOU grants academic university degrees.
  3. The Targets and Aims of the Libraries: The Central Library aims at collecting books and references about a wide range of subjects; therefore, one can find in it books that are related to academic programs at Al-Quds Open University, in addition to other subjects that serve the students, academic supervisors, and researchers. The Central Library and other minor, subsidiary libraries in all regions and centers at QOU arrange all academic books and references according to Dewy Decimal System. The ultimate goal of the Central Library is to serve the students and the researchers by lending books to them and facilitate for its visitors getting on the information they are in need of or requested.
  4. Collections of Books: The libraries at QOU have a considerable number of books and periodicals that are there in the Central Library and in other minor, subsidiary libraries in the educational regions and centers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
