The Faculty of Educational Sciences and the Deanship of Scientific Research at Al Quds Open University, the Teacher Creativity Center, and the Palestinian Education Coalition organized a National Education Conference entitled "The Reality of Education in Palestine and its Future in the Context of the Fourth Development Goal" under the auspices of Mr. Adnan Samara, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Creativity and Excellence.
The participants emphasized the need to develop supportive policies to achieve the 4th.Development Goal, and submit them to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and the relevant institutions, to be adopted. Participants also stressed the need to strengthen the partnership between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and universities and educational institutions in pre-service teacher education programs, and called for the state to develop policies and laws that enhance the status of future teacher. They stressed the need to benefit from the experience of Al-Quds Open University in open educational resources and to disseminate it to the various marginalized areas to spread education among members of society, whether in normal circumstances or during crises. They also called for raising the social response of the private sector to finance the education sector in Palestine. Finally, they recommended that an annual educational conference be held in which the priorities of educational issues will be raised, in order to complement the objectives of the conference and to promote community participation.
The main session entitled “The Role of Higher Education Institutions in Achieving the Fourth Development Goal" headed by Prof. Mohamed Shaheen, in which Mrs. Sonia Ezam talked about the fourth objective of sustainable development goals 2030, while Dr. Eng. Islam Amr talked about “The Role of Higher Education Institutions in Achieving the Fourth Development Goal”. Mr. Mamoun Jaber presented a paper on "The role of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in achieving the fourth developmental goal", and Mr. Eyad Al-Riahi presented a paper entitled: (Shadow report: to measure progress towards quality education and SDG4).
During the first scientific session, Ms. Tamara al-Tamimi talked about "Protecting the right to education in times of armed conflict: the military occupation of Palestine as a case study". Dr. Ziad Jerjawi and Dr. Nafez Ayoub talked about "the educational role of kindergartens institutions from the point of view of the directors and educators of kindergartens in Palestine,”. Dr. Alia Al-Assali presented a paper on "The new Palestinian curriculum / position paper", Dr. Mahmoud Obaid and Dr. Fakhri Dweikat presented a paper on "The obstacles of integration between special education and inclusive education", and Ms. Ola Issa talked about “Adult Education in Palestine ... Challenges and Prospects". During the same session, a short film on the fourth development objective was presented.
At the 2nd session, Ms. Camilla Cross presented a paper on “The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) in building a social educational movement in the world", and Prof. Youssef Diab presented a paper on "Al Quds Open University Experience in Promoting Community Partnership".
Mr. Bahaa Al-Shatli, Coordinator of the Education Sector at (UNICEF) in Gaza talked about the Fourth Development Goal in Sustainable Development Goals 2030. Prof. Ziad Jerjawi Assistant Vice President of Al-Quds Open University presented a paper entitled "The Educational Role of Kindergarten Institutions from the Point of View of the Directors and Educators of kindergartens in Palestine". Mr. Emad Al-Hattab, Director of the Educational and Cultural Department at the Red Crescent Society in Gaza talked about “The experience of the Palestinian Education Coalition in the context of the situation in Gaza" Dr. Ismail Al-Farra Faculty Member at Al-Quds Open University presented a paper on "The Degree of Practicing the Hidden Curriculum to enhance national identity by UNRWA teachers in their Students” , Dr. Nasser Al-Agha, Faculty Member at Al-Quds Open University talked about "The experience of Al-Quds Open University in Education in times of crisis", and Ms. Rana Ziadeh presented a paper on the "experience of the teacher who received the national award".
The session was concluded by reading the recommendations of the conference .
