Geneva: Al-Quds Open University wins The BID Quality Award (the International Century Quality Era Award) marking it as one of the top 50 pioneer institutions in the world.

The University obtained BID Quality Award (Century International Gold Quality Era Award) in 2015, for the commitment of the University with high quality standards, leadership, Technology advancement, and innovation. Thus, the University is within the top 50 pioneer institutions in the world in the field of open learning and higher education. The Award is a mark of excellence achieved by organizations which, in the philosophy of continuous improvement, have become drivers of innovation. Receiving a BID Quality Award means receiving the support of a multi-national team of professionals, specialized in the communication, education and promotion of Quality Culture. Behind each award recipient there is also a commitment to excellence and continuous improvement. This commitment to Quality Culture is the force behind companies, organizations and leaders who are recognized for a continuous search for quality and excellence. To receive the BID Quality Award is to become part of a team of companies, institutions, organizations and outstanding visionary business leaders, whose presence in 179 countries worldwide, represents entrepreneurship, success and Total Quality. The University was nominated and chosen based on different criteria such as, students’ satisfaction, number of student body, communication system, education system and their quality, social responsibility, planning, human resources, technology advancement, ISO 9000, Leadership, and many other important criteria.

Al-Quds Open University received the award during a Ceremony held at the Headquarters of the Business Initiatives Directions in Geneva. The President of BID, Mr. Jose Prietto, presented the Award to QOU’s President Assistant for Technology & Media Production Affairs, Dr. Eng. Islam Amro.

 QOU held a press conference on Tuesday March 31, 2015, to announce the news at the headquarters of the Ministry of Information in Ramallah. The conference was attended by Head of Public Relations Department at the Ministry, Mrs. Nidaa’ Younis, QOU’s Chairman of Board of Trustees and Chairman of the Palestinian Higher Council for Innovation & Excellence, Eng. Adnan Samara, and QOU’s President Assistant for Technology & Media Production, Dr. Eng. Islam Amro.

The award is given to QOU for its policies of the continuous development of technology, quality, management, and leadership in the field of education in Palestine. Moreover, for its international pioneer role in open learning. Furthermore, for the magnitude of the University’s influence and contribution in the local community, students’ International Tests (ETS) results, the applied technology system, and the followed quality assurance procedures.  

Eng. Samara stated at the conference that, “BID Quality Award confirms the University’s excellence, pioneer role, and innovation in various fields, especially in Open learning and technology.” He also stressed that QOU is open for all sectors and it will always be under the leadership of PLO. Eng. Samara pointed to the expansion of the university in the recent years to include 63,000 students and 22 branches across the country.

QOU President Assistant for Technology & Media Production Affairs, Dr. Eng. Islam Amro, stated that BID evaluation of the University showed that besides having a quality council, it’s one of the few institution in the Arab Region to follow international quality standards. It also has an elaborated mechanism to monitor and document the daily operations of the University

He also added: “Al- Quds Open University is the first Palestinian Institution obtains the BID Century Quality Era Award.

Dr. Eng. Islam Amro mentioned that Al- Quds Open University became one of the most distinctive institutions among Palestine, and the exclusive agent for many certified trainings such as Prometric & Microsoft. 

Dr. Amro expressed the delight of QOU’s Staff and employees for obtaining this Award he also described the University as a pioneer institution in the field of open learning in Palestine and the Arab World. It also has approx. 4000 academics and administrative employees and graduated more than 70,000 students.
